Worm Count Test For Horses
From £18.50 per test
This Worm Count Test For Horses is a laboratory based screening service designed to identify gastrointestinal nematodes (gut roundworms) and protozoa in your horse. This test is conducted by fully trained staff using advanced microscopy in our state-of-the-art veterinary laboratory.
This test offers reliable results as well as expert aftercare advise regarding whether to worm and if so, with which product. Our worm egg test also includes (at no additional charge) a report on the level of fibre present within the sample, which can be an indication of digestion or teeth issues.
Adopting a diagnostic-led, risk-based approach to worming is essential for your horse’s welfare. With the growing issue of worm resistance to current worming products it’s more important than ever to take proactive measures. One of the most effective ways to stay on top of worm burdens and help reduce resistance is through regular diagnostic testing.
Order before 3pm Monday-Friday for same day dispatch, which we send on a 24 hour service. All orders over £40 and all subscriptions qualify for free delivery.
If your screen is urgent and you would prefer to send a sample directly to the lab, please contact us and we will give you a Unique Lab Reference number and help you with what to do.

Further information
This kit is for one animal and includes:
- One recyclable padded envelope, made with 60% recycled material
- Free tracked return 24hr postage
- One white paper laboratory request form and test and instruction sheet
- One clear recyclable sample collection box in resealable write-on panelled bag
- One biodegradable second sealable bag
- One biodegradable natural wood sampling spoon
All parasites are reported with their English and Latin names, which is useful if veterinary intervention is required.
If running this screen for an equine, the screen will identify and quantify all species present within the family groups of:
- Redworms
- Ascarids
- Pinworms
- Stomach worms
- Neck worms
- Cestodes (Tapeworms*)
The screen, as standard, also reports on:
- Protozoa– Eimeria lukarti
- Undigested excess fibre (qualitative analysis) which can indicate dietary or teeth related issues
* If tapeworm segments are present in the sample, we will report on these however, due to the irregular shedding pattern of the equine tapeworm, a negative result should not be taken as a zero presence. We recommend at least annual worming for tapeworm.
