Combined Worm Count & Lungworm Test for Dogs and Cats
Comprehensive parasite screening

Our Combined Worm Egg Count and Lungworm Test offers excellent value and convenience, providing a full internal parasite screen for dogs and cats. By combining two essential tests into one, this screen saves both time and money compared to purchasing each test separately.

This test is designed to detect the presence of a mature internal parasite burden at the time of sampling. If parasites are found, we will identify the species so that targeted and appropriate treatment can be given. Our combined screen is highly comprehensive, offering accurate species identification and quantitative results (where appropriate) for each parasite detected.

Key benefits:

  • Cost-effective combined testing

  • Quantitative results to guide treatment decisions

  • Avoids unnecessary treatments

Easy sample collection:

The collection kits are easy to use and come with full instructions.  For this screen, two separate samples are required:

  • A single-day sample for the wormcount test

  • A three-day pooled sample for the lungworm test

Full instructions are provided with each kit, and we recommend following them closely to ensure the most accurate results.

Why choose this test?

  • Detects a wide range of internal parasites, including roundworms, tapeworms, whipworms, hookworms, and coccidia

  • Identifies lungworm larvae where relevant

  • Supports responsible parasite control by reducing unnecessary worming

  • Helps monitor the effectiveness of previous treatments

Fast results:

Once samples are received into the lab, wormcount results are issues the same working day and lungworm results are issues the next working day. Results are sent directly to your email with clear explanations and recommendations if parasites are detected.

Worm counts hold significant importance in the context of dog health. Regular monitoring using worm counts enables early detection and treatment of internal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, threadworms and whipworms. While our lungworm test will detect the 5 species of lungworm currently in the UK. In addition, worm count and lungworm tests can confirm if your current treatment programme is working. High worm burdens can lead to a range of issues, including weight loss, poor coat condition, diarrhoea, and even life-threatening complications.

The worm count portion of the combined test reports on:

  • Ascarids
  • Hookworms
  • Whipworms
  • Threadworms
  • All species of cestodes (Tapeworms*)
  • Protozoa – Coccidia

The worm count test, as standard, also reports on:

  • Undigested lipids (qualitative analysis)
  • Undigested microscopic food particles (qualitative analysis)

*Tapeworms are very intermittent shedders and do not always show on a worm egg screen.  If present, the species will be identified. As they may not have been present when the sample was taken, it is advisable to use regular tapeworm specific treatment.

This worm count screen requires a 1 day sample and comes with complete sample collection instructions.

The lungworm portion of the combined test reports on:

  • Crenosoma vulpis (Fox lungworm)
  • Oslerus osleri (Dog Lungworm)
  • Angiostrongylus vasorum (French Heartworm)
  • Eucoleus aerophilus
  • Filaroides hirthi

Please note that it requires a three-day sample. This screen comes with complete instructions.

Please take the samples from the first motion of the day and store the lungworm samples at room temperature whilst collecting.
