Liver Fluke Test Kit
£19.95 per test
A faecal screen for liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica) in grazing farm animals and equines.
Fasciolosis, commonly referred to as liver fluke disease, is caused by the flatworm parasite Fasciola hepatica, a type of trematode. The disease manifests when large numbers of immature flukes migrate through the liver, when adult flukes inhabit the bile ducts, or through both processes simultaneously. Although liver flukes can infect all grazing animals they primarily affect sheep and cattle. Sheep, in particular, tend to experience more severe (pathogenic) damage from the infection.
This screen is undertaken in our own purpose-built laboratory, by fully trained and experienced analysts using specialist testing apparatus.
Free after test advice is available with all of our screens.
Order before 3pm Monday-Friday for same day dispatch, which we send on a 24 hour service. All orders over £40 and all subscriptions qualify for free delivery.
If your screen is urgent and you would prefer to send a sample directly to the lab, please contact us and we will give you a Unique Lab Reference number and help you with what to do.

Further information
Liver fluke or “Fasciola hepatica” can affect grazing animals, including horses, although it is more commonly associated with cattle, sheep, alpacas and goats. Liver fluke is picked up by the animal eating the Galba truncatula mud snail when grazing, typically in marshy/wet pasture in relatively warm conditions. Liver fluke is typically most prevalent in summer and autumn months. Symptoms can include anaemia, weight loss, chronic diarrhoea and raised liver enzymes.
Up to 2 animals of the same species can be tested as a pooled sample per kit, as long as they live and graze together. One single result will be provided. Please ensure that the box is completely filled.
Faecal screens for liver fluke are very useful in certain circumstances but if the test result is negative and you still suspect that your animals are suffering from a liver fluke infestation, we strongly recommend that you contact your vet immediately. This negative result may be due to insufficient material being submitted or due to intermittent shedding.
For larger sampling of the flock or herd please contact the office via our contact us page to discuss options.
This kit includes:
- One recyclable padded envelope, made with 60% recycled material
- Free tracked return 24hr postage
- 1 yellow laboratory request form and instruction sheet
- 1 labelled sample collection box in a resealable write-on panelled bag
- 1 scented bag
